USA - Clarksburg Water Board Votes to Remove Fluoride

Tuesday night, the Clarksburg Water Board voted two to one in favor of not purchasing fluoride for their water treatment.
This has caused many people to speak out, saying fluoride is beneficial for residents who use city water.
Fluoride is used to treat water in many cities and states.
There have been some studies to show some negative health effects, but overall, fluoride helps lower the risk of cavities in your teeth, which could eventually lead to decay and other illness throughout the body.
Local dentists say the benefits outweigh the possible problems, and hope they reconsider.
"As a dental professional, I can walk in a room and know when a kid has fluoride or when he doesn't," said Dr. Robert Martino, CEO of Wilson Martino Dental. "The kids without fluoride have decay everywhere. With fluoride, sealant, we're doing a good job keeping kids cavity free. Without this mineral, we're going to have a challenge."

USA - FLUORIDE LEVELS REDUCED FOR FLUORIDATION WHILE ITS SAFETY NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) admitted that the fluoride levels, which they promoted and encouraged as safe, has damaged children’s teeth.  Because of the huge increase in dental fluorosis (white spotted, yellow, brown and/or pitted teeth) on the teeth of 41% of young teenagers, HHS says that water fluoride levels should be lowered to 0.7 mg/L (formerly most communities used 1 mg/L while the guideline was 0.7 – 1.2 mg/L) and in ten years they’ll check children’s teeth to see if they were right about this new level.
In January 2011 when the HSS first announced this recommendation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Water released documents to substantiate the safety of continuing water fluoridation. However, the EPA has not yet responded to the many substantive comments they received (eg, FAN’s submissions: Dose-Response Analysis for Non-Cancer Effects and Exposure and Relative Source Contribution Analysis). So while HSS has finalized the guideline for the level of fluoride in fluoridation schemes, the safety of the issue has not yet been responded to. The HSS response to these concerns was to whitewash them.............................

From Doug Cross and Liz Vaughan, at UK Councils Against Fluoridation

Tony Lees - an appreciation.
Tony was a remarkable man, a friend and a colleague. He was a hospitable and gentle man. Not long ago we found ourselves stuck, late one evening, on the Welsh Borders with nowhere to go for the night. Tony and Jenny were delighted to see us, and immediately found room for us, fed us and made us comfortable.
But he was far more than this. He was an honourable man, prepared to tread where so many of his fellow professionals feared to follow. As a practising dentist he had seen for himself how fluoride was harming children in the Midlands, and he stood up and publicly told how it really was. No-one coerced him to support us in the fight against water fluoridation - he saw the evidence for himself . He described to all who would listen how he had been obliged to treat children whose teeth had been disfigured in the false name of public health.
Our little ‘team’ travelled widely, providing Councils across the country with lively and informative presentations that left the pro-fluoridation lobby floundering in impotent fury. Tony was our star, the professional insider who would not be bullied into supporting the unsupportable beliefs of his professional fellows who were too timid to speak out and be counted. His word was accepted where that of others might be doubted. He knew what he was taking about and told people how things really are.
He was a man prepared to learn things new, and then take action. When Professor Susheela showed him her research on the drastic damaging effects of fluoride on the intestine, he was shocked. When she told him that his irritable bowel might be caused by using fluoridated toothpaste, he stopped using it and quickly recovered. But then he went one extra step forward - he produced and marketed his own commercial brand of toothpaste - unfluoridated, of course.
Over the years we have done far more than just passed each other by in the night; we have worked together and, now, we have lost a dear friend. We shall miss him deeply.

USA - Feds Say It's Time To Cut Back On Fluoride In Drinking Water

Water dripping from faucetFederal health officials Monday changed the recommended amount of fluoride in drinking water for the first time since 1962, cutting by almost half the maximum amount of fluoride that should be added to drinking supplies.
The Department of Health and Human Services recommended 0.7 milligrams of fluoride per liter of water instead of the long-standing range of 0.7 to 1.2 milligrams.
"The change is recommended because now Americans have access to more sources of fluoride, such as toothpaste and mouth rinses, than they did when fluoridation was first introduced in the United States," Dr. Boris Lushniak, the deputy surgeon general, told reporters during a conference call. As a result, many Americans are getting too much fluoride, which is causing a big increase in a condition known as fluorosis that causes very faint white marks on people's teeth.
"The new recommended level will maintain the protective decay prevention benefits of water fluoridation and reduce the occurrence of dental fluorosis," Lushniak says.
But opponents of fluoridation and even some scientists maintain the new standard doesn't go nearly far enough. They say there's evidence that overexposure to fluoride might increase the risk for other health issues, including possibly thyroid problems, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and even lower IQs. "Due to the importance of having the best possible brains in the future, I think that that would suggest that we be careful about the amount of fluoride that we deliver to the population in drinking water," says Dr. Philippe Grandjean at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Because fluoride is so readily available, critics argue people should be able to decide for themselves whether to use fluoride and how they get it. "In our view it's high time for the United States to start following the approach taken by most of the Western world and stop fluoridating its water," says Michael Connett of the group Fluoride Action Network.
"It makes far more sense for those people who want to use fluoride to brush it on their teeth, spit it out and that way you apply fluoride to the only tissue in the body that stands to benefit," he says. "And you don't expose every other tissue in the body."
But the decision was welcomed by groups such as the American Dental Association. Federal health officials dismiss concerns that fluoride might cause other health problems.
"The only documented risk of water fluoridation is fluorosis, and it is primarily a cosmetic risk," says Barbara Gooch, a dentist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Fluorosis in the milder form is not a health risk."

UK - Fluoride in our water

Fluoride in our water
P Maddison made this Environmental Information Regulations request to Severn Trent Plc

Currently waiting for a response from Severn Trent Plc, they must respond promptly and normally no later than 26 May 2015 (details).

From: P Maddison

25 April 2015

Dear Severn Trent Plc,

I was going to ask if you put fluoride in the water supply for
Derbyshire, but I have since found out that you DO.

Source:
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/f...
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/f...

Which in one of your replies, you suggest the person should look up
your 'Fluoridation Map',
http://www.stwater.co.uk/upload/pdf/Fluo...

You also suggested that they make the request to Strategic Health
Authority. I have searched for them and the FOI website informs me
that they are 'defunct' and that they were 'NHS West Midlands'.
Because of this, I fail to see how the NHS has the authority to
demand fluoride is placed into the water system. If I am mistaken
and they are not the ones who demand it's inclusion into our water.

I would like to know;
Who decided that fluoride should be added to the water.

Why fluoride is added to the water, what are it's assumed benefits
as fluoride is a TOXIC substance. Please watch this video;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7BqFtyC...

When was fluoride first added to the water.

Where does the fluoride come from, is it a bi-product, if so, what
is it a bi-product of.

What level of fluoridation is in the water.

What level of fluoridation is considered safe.

What level of fluoridation is considered dangerous.

Does Severn Trent (or whomever this request is aimed at) have water
filtration systems in it's buildings and why.

I would like copies of the minutes of any meeting that was in
relation to fluoride.

Are there any plans to cease water fluoridation, if so, why and if
not, why.

How were the safe and dangerous levels of fluoridated water
discovered.

If you are not the one to ask about fluoridation then could you
please forward this request to whomever is.

Yours faithfully,

P Maddison

Canada - Lakeshore Doesn’t Want Fluoride

Essex County Warden and Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain March 10, 2015. (Photo by Adelle Loiselle)Lakeshore council is worried the province is going to force them to put fluoride in the town water.Mayor Tom Bain says the majority of the town has never had it in their water, and they don’t want to add it now. “We’re going to send a letter off to the provincial government that we felt we dealt with it here and that we feel it’s a local issue. We want them to know we certainly don’t want it in our water.”

Bain says the chemical could also cause problems for the town’s food processing plants.
Provincial officials have hinted regulations forcing municipalities to include fluoride in water could be coming.

Juices are the main cause of cavities

ONE of the few dentists in who offers nitrous oxide or inhalation sedation — popularly known as laughing gas — is finding phobic patients are beating a track to her clinic.
Carrigaline-based Dr Anne Twomey, president of the Irish Dentistry Association, points to a Behaviour and Attitudes survey that found 30% of adults don’t attend the dentist because of severe dread and phobia. “The fear is usually due to a negative experience as a child.”
Dr Twomey uses nitrous oxide on 10-15% of her patients and sees a role for it in her paediatric client base too.
“I want to ensure children, who come to me, have a good positive experience so they’re not carrying fear [around the dentist] into adulthood.”
Nitrous oxide is administered via a nose-piece, while the dental procedure is ongoing. She uses it on children as young as three once they cooperate around insertion of the nose-piece.
“The effect is to make the patient feel very calm, warm, comfortable and happy. Nitrous oxide leaves the system within three to five minutes of removing the treatment.”
According to Dr Twomey, children aren’t being seen as often by the school dentist as previously.
“So parents have a responsibility to ensure children go to the dentist every six to 12 months. The reality is that many children’s first visit is at age six or eight. They come because they’ve fallen or they have toothache or a tooth hasn’t fallen out properly. They may have quite a severe problem with decay.”
Dr Twomey uses nitrous oxide on about four children a week.
“Because I’m seeing them later I have to do heavy work on their teeth, so I use inhalation sedation. I use it if the child is very anxious or fearful or if I’m going to be doing something unpleasant like extracting a tooth.”
Dr Twomey has seen children as young as three with decayed teeth.
“I look into their mouth and see big brown holes in their back teeth, yet these teeth have only been there six months. It’s generally children who don’t have a habit of drinking water or milk — they’re having drinks like apple juice or diluted blackcurrant.
“Sipping these drinks throughout the day is like washing your teeth all day in a sugary substance. Every time you have sugar, the bacteria that feed off it have a party. Acid is produced, which attacks the teeth. Saliva neutralises the acid but it can’t do this if the teeth are being constantly bathed in sugar.”
She asks parents to make one change — to get rid of all sweet drinks.
“Just stop buying them — it’s easier to say ‘no’ if they’re not in the house.”

Does Fluoride In Drinking Water Leads To Depression?

The Link between Fluoride in Drinking Water and Depression

Fluoride in drinking water may trigger depression and weight gain, warn scientists. Fluoride is a substance that helps shield your teeth against cavities; this is why dentists provide you with fluoride treatment after they clean your teeth or why our toothpaste have this substance. The U.S. government has begun incorporating little amounts of fluoride into their drinking water, which was made a national policy during 1951 so that the prevalence of cavities will decrease.
Although, despite the fact that about 400 million of people around the world receive water with fluoride (mostly in the U.S and some parts of Australia and South America), the process has been always controversial. Today, a study done by Prof. Stephen Peckham at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom suggests that fluoride present in drinking water is, in fact, more unsafe than we thought, which can result in increasing underactive thyroid – which is associated with fatigue, depression and obesity.
Fluoride can be a cause of depression and weight gain, and it’s advisable to stop putting it into drinking water to avoid tooth decay, according to scientists.
A study conducted of 98% GP practices in England has found out that increasing prevalence of underactive thyroid were about 30% prone in areas where there is great fluoridation.
It could simply mean that about 15,000 people are experiencing needless thyroid problems, which later can lead to aching muscles, fatigue, depression and weight gain.
Drinking and Depression
Just last year, the Public Health England has released a report stating that fluoride was an “effective and safe” means to improve dental health.
However, latest research conducted at the University of Kent in the UK stated that there’s an increase in the number of cases of underactive thyroid in areas with high fluoride like the North East and West Midlands of England.
According to Prof. Stephen Peckham, who is the lead author at Centre for Health Services Studies, there is increasing concern for people living in those areas. He also stated that the difference between Manchester which doesn’t have fluoridates and West Midlands, which has, was very striking, for the number of cases in the West Midlands was nearly double. He said that having underactive thyroid is not a good thing to have and that it might result in other long-term health issues. He suggests that that Council should think again about adding fluoride to drinking water and that there are other alternatives in improving dental health.
In England, about 10% of the total population lives in regions where their drinking water supply is added to 1 mg of fluoride per litre. Researchers have compared areas to records of 7935 general practices, which cover about 95% of the population in England in 2012-2013.
The rate of the underactive thyroid was at a minimal 30% more probable in practices situated in areas that have fluoride levels exceeding 0.3 mg/l.
Fluoride is a mineral that can be naturally found in water at various quantity, depending on the area and can also be found in particular food and drinks, which includes fish and tea. It fights tooth decay by making enamel resilient from bacteria.
However, earlier studies have shown that it prevents iodine production, which is vital for a healthy thyroid.
The thyroid gland, found in the neck helps by regulating metabolism rate, as well as many other systems of the body.
An underactive thyroid can result in aching muscles, depression, fatigue and weight gain and is more common among women as compared to men, about 15 in 1000 women.
Drinking and DepressionResearchers suggest that the council should think about regarding policy on adding fluoride to the drinking water supply in the effort to boost the dental health of the nation.
But, Public Health England stated that earlier evidence significantly showed that adding fluoride to water is safe.
The Director of Dental Public Health in England, Dr. Sandra White, said that Public Health England reviews the evidence in water fluoridation on a regular basis. She also said that, the overall evidence amassed over the years of research suggests that adding water to drinking water supply is an effective and safe public health measure, and displays no relation to that of reduced thyroid function.
There are other experts who suggest that the study might have been twisted by population bias, which is denied by the authors.
According to Professor David Coggon, who is the, Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, University of Southampton, it is possible that the noted relation is an effect of the other means which the regions with high fluoride vary from the rest of the nation. He also said that there are significantly more demanding epidemiological techniques by which the research team could have used to test their ideas.
The research was published in the BMJs Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

Looks a beautiful place to live in shame about the fluoridation promotion. No mention of fluorosis or what they use is not the natural calcium fluoride.
I wonder who wrote the scripts as they seemed to be parroting from the same source.

Canada - Poisoning water with fluoride should not be mandated by province

The 2002 Safe Drinking Water Act states “Dilution is no excuse for adding a contaminant to drinking water.”

File photo of drinking water. (Windsor Star file)Re: MPP Bob Delaney’s petition to mandate artificial water fluoridation across Ontario.
For decades, numerous Ontario municipalities have used hydrofluorsilicic acid to artificially fluoridate drinking water.
HFSA is classified by the Canadian Environmental Protection Act as synthetic, persistent, bio-accumulative and toxic. It has never been regulated under Canada’s Food and Drugs Act and the Hazardous Waste Act prohibits its direct disposal anywhere in the environment.
There are growing concerns that inordinate fluoride exposure from all sources, like pesticides, fumigant residues and mouthwash, contributes to health problems. The U.S. National Research Council has warned that kidney patients, diabetics, seniors and babies are especially vulnerable to harm from ingested fluorides.
Since 2004, there has been a 33 per cent reduction of artificially fluoridated communities across Canada.
Published, variable controlled studies have shown no increase in tooth decay following cessation.
Incredibly, against this backdrop, Mississauga MPP Bob Delaney presented a petition to the Ontario legislature proposing mandatory artificial water fluoridation for the entire province — a position supported by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
Introducing a known toxin to drinking water without proper safety or efficacy studies, or the consideration of current fluoride exposure, is reckless. It also flies in the face of ethical medical practice, which affords individuals the right to consent.
Accordingly, safe water advocates demand the withdrawal of the petition before the legislature and expect our health unit to retract its position of support.
A request for the release of studies conducted in Canada — or anywhere in the world — that prove HFSA is safe for consumption or effective in preventing dental caries was sent to Health Canada’s Access to Information and Privacy Division.
Their response May 26, 2014: “After a thorough search for the requested information, no records were located which respond to your request.”

Council demands 'facts' before fluoride added to Hull's water supply

Councillor Danny Brown, who chairs the commission at the Guildhall, said: "It is a very emotive subject.
'EMOTIVE SUBJECT': Cllr Danny Brown, who chairs the health scrutiny commission."There are a lot of people totally against fluoridation, while there are other people who think it should have been instigated years ago.
"We need all the information we can get in order for us to comment on it."

The health and wellbeing board, chaired by Councillor Colin Inglis, is considering fluoridation as part of its plan to improve the oral health of children in the city.

Cllr Inglis has declared the evidence for the introduction of water fluoridation is "incontrovertible" and has said: "Adding fluoride to the water supply has major benefits to oral health and, while it may take some time, I am fully behind the proposal."

He and former Health Secretary Alan Johnson, Labour candidate for Hull West and Hessle in the forthcoming general election, have met dentists in the city to discuss the plans.

They have already voiced their support for the addition of fluoride to the water supply and say evidence backs claims that it has a marked improvement on oral health.

However, campaigners are already mounting a challenge to the plans after expressing concerns over the impact of water fluoridation on health.

Councillor John Abbott, a member of the scrutiny commission, said: "Councillor Inglis might have a very strong social view on this, but we need the science, too. We need to know what the risks are."

The commission has recommended the next report, due to outline the options for improving oral health, should be presented to its councillors first before it is presented to the health and wellbeing board.

Tooth decay in kids

By the age of five, more than four in ten children in Hull have tooth decay.

A survey by Public Health England survey found 43.4 per cent of five-year-olds in the city have tooth decay, compared with the national average of 28 per cent.

Almost 700 children had to have teeth taken out under general anaesthetic between October 2012 and December 2013.

A further 21 children who were just two years old had decayed teeth extracted under general anaesthetic.

Erin Brockovich facebook

After a great deal of research and personal thought, I am opposed to the continued policy and practice of drinking water fluoridation; I believe this harmful practice must be ended immediately. Public drinking water is a basic human right; and its systematic use as a dispensary of a substance for medical purposes is deplorable.
Shocking revelations are surfacing in the growing scandal; real harm from fluoride affects people of all races and ages, but one of the especially shocking aspects of the scandal is how dental and government officials responded when The Lillie Center for Energy & Health Studies publicized the science showing disproportionate fluoride harm to the African American community. Minority community and civil rights leaders have been speaking out, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s niece Alveda King. Ms. King recently posted on my Facebook page that I should keep shining the light on Fluoridegate. Ms. King also called for public hearings, and I agree: it's time for meaningful public hearings. There are numerous documents and aspects to this scandal that investigative bodies and investigative journalists will want to examine.
Now is the time for professional and consumer advocacy groups that have blindly lent their name to support drinking water fluoridation to rescind that permission. How many of them actually conducted their own reviews before allowing their name to be used? And now is the time to ask the hard questions about the nature of the relationship between trade groups, our surgeon generals, and other government officials concerning drinking water fluoridation.
As a mother and grandmother, I am concerned about families in fluoridated communities using fluoridated drinking water from their tap to mix infant milk formula. I am concerned that the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences has designated kidney patients, children, diabetics and seniors as "susceptible subpopulations" that are especially vulnerable to harm from ingested fluorides. How can we in good conscience give susceptible persons an uncontrolled amount of fluorides in water? I also strongly support Drinking water utility professionals, many I know many deplore and feel guilty about the idea of dispensing medication through drinking water and working with the dangerous fluoridation chemicals.
Drinking water fluoridation takes away people's freedom to choose what they take into their bodies. Low income families may not have the financial means to avoid over dosing with their drinking water.
I call for four avenues of action:
1. An immediate repeal of all laws that require or enable fluoridation.
2. Holding of Fluoridegate hearings at both national and state levels.
3. For professional associations and advocacy groups to rescind allowing their names to be used to support drinking water fluoridation.
4. For key research to immediately begin on how to safely remove fluorides that have accumulated in people's bones and pineal glands.
My career has been about making people aware of harmful exposures and the deception that often accompanies those exposures. Drinking water fluoridation is harmful, we've been deceived to believe it is safe, and with new found knowledge we must all act now to stop it.

USA - Anti-fluoride campaign gains momentum

One of the nation’s leading activists against fluoridating public water supplies will speak in Petaluma later this month on a controversial county plan to add fluoride to the drinking water supply as a technique for reducing tooth decay in children.
Dr. William Hirzy, a professor of chemistry at American University, questioned the dental health benefits of fluoride, and said the chemical could pose other health threats.
“Adding fluoride to the drinking water at any level from any source is a bad idea,” he said in an interview. “There is no relation between tooth decay and non-fluoridation of the water supply. But there is substantial evidence that exposure to high levels of fluoride in the drinking water can lead to attention deficit hyperactive disorder, hyperthyroidism and even loss of IQ.”
For more than three years, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has been considering the idea of fluoridating the county’s water supply. Several cities within the county have formally opposed the concept, including Cotati, Sebastopol and Sonoma.
Anti-fluoride activists have held meetings at Aqus Café in the past week and have lobbied Petaluma Mayor David Glass and members of the City Council to join in opposition to fluoridating public water supplies.
Hirzy is expected to appear before the City Council on April 20.
“It has been estimated that placing fluoride into Petaluma’s drinking supply would cost over $1 million,” said Hirzy. “For that money you could provide everyone in the county with fluoride pills, or just buy them toothbrushes and teach them proper hygiene.”
Hirzy said that fluoride only provides benefits for dental health when it is applied topically, such as in toothpaste.
He added that fluoride toothpaste provides “a much higher fluoride content” when applied to the teeth than when ingesting it.
“One can spit out most of the fluoride and avoid as much internal exposure as possible,” he said.
During a meeting at Aqus Café on March 31, local activist Stephen Fuller-Rowell, who leads Clean Water Sonoma, said swallowing fluoride through the water supply to gain its benefits was similar to “swallowing sun-screen to protect yourself from sunburn.”
“Dental care in Sonoma County is pathetic, especially for the poor,” he said. “Prevention is the key to tooth decay. Fluoride toothpaste works very well and you don’t have to swallow it.”
Supervisor David Rabbitt has long supported adding fluoride to the local drinking water supply.
“The science is there,” he said. “Fluoridating the water is good for dental health, and oral health is important to overall health. The main issue is how do you make it happen?”
When the issue was being debated in 2012, Rabbitt noted that the Surgeon General’s office had estimated that every $30 spent on putting fluoride into local water supplies resulted in $38 in health benefits.
He also noted that 69 percent of counties in the United States fluoridate their water.
The county’s Fluoridation Advisory Committee, which was formed by the Board of Supervisors to study the issue, has said fluoridating the water is one part of the county’s strategic goals to prevent dental disease.

Ireland - Profits rise at fluoride supplier

Pre-tax profits at the firm employed by the Government to deliver the material used for the contentious fluoridation of the State’s water supply last year jumped by 56% to €1.16m.
New figures show that pre-tax profits at Chemifloc Ltd increased by €416,776 from €744,548 to €1.16m in the 12 months to the end of last December.
The firm has the contract to deliver the hydrofluosilicic acid from a source in Spain that is required for the fluoridation of the State’s water supply.
Between 2009 and 2013, the State spent €9.7m on supplying the hydrofluosilicic acid.
Chemifloc was first awarded the hydrofluosilicic acid contract in 1991.
The main activity of the company is the manufacture of water treatment chemicals and according to the directors’ report “both the level of business and year end financial position were satisfactory given the current economic climate”.
The firm recorded the increase in pre-tax profits after its gross profit jumped by 15% from €4.346m to €5m.
The firm was established over 30 years ago by Hilary Lawless and his colleagues and at the end of last December it had accumulated profits of €12.83m.
At Ennis District Court last year, the firm only avoided a conviction concerning a chemical spill after confirming to court that it was to fund a €10,000 university science scholarship at the University of Limerick for a Clare student and pay costs of €3,152 and expenses of €1,562.
In the case, the firm pleaded guilty to two offences arising from a Health & Safety Authority investigation relating to the uncontrolled emission of a yellow-green gas on its premises in December 2012.
Arising from the chemical spill, a Chemifloc employee spent two days in intensive care, with a second spending five days in a hospital high dependency unit, along with a further six hospitalised.
Chemifloc pleaded guilty to failing to manage work activities in such a manner to ensure the safety, health, and work of its employees which as a consequence resulted in employees Eugene Flanagan, Martin Hehir, Jack O’Malley, John Dillon, Anthony O’Sullivan, Susan O’Donnell, Mary Collins, and contract truck driver Patrick Glynn sustaining personal injury.

Australia - Health minister slams controversial Paleo chef Pete Evans for opposing teeth-saving fluoridation of water supplies

Pete Evans has been slammed by medical professionals for promoting fluoride-free waterHealth Minister Jillian Skinner has slammed celebrity chef Pete Evans for promoting fluoride-free water, saying he is putting people's health at risk with his extreme views on diet and lifestyle. 'He knows nothing from a specialist point of view': Health minister slams controversial Paleo chef Pete Evans for opposing teeth-saving fluoridation of water supplies. It comes after concerned medical professionals described Evans' standpoint as misinformed and a potentially dangerous lifestyle choice after he revealed his family also steers clear of consuming Australian tap water. Ms Skinner said she was 'highly disappointed' to see the My Kitchen Rules judge use his power as a high profile media personality to influence in areas he had no expertise, in which she has refused to watch his reality cooking show. 'Here we are spending a lot of effort and energy in educating people about the value of fluoridation, about the fact that there are no risks associated with vaccination, or very low risks, and that there is no connection between vaccination and autism, and it is countered by a celebrity who knows nothing from a specialist point of view,' she told The Sunday Telegraph.

'I'm highly disappointed that they would use a platform of cooking. That is totally inappropriate and quite disturbing, which is why I won't watch those programs anymore.'
Evans' has responded to the Health Minister's concerns, saying he would like to discuss the benefits of water fluoridation.
'I welcome the opportunity to discuss the value of fluoridation with Ms Skinner, but ask that she, or any other party, does not misrepresent my views, opinions or beliefs.'
The revelation follows after Evans threw his weight behind an anti-fluoride campaign where he proudly wore a 'Fluoride Free WA' t-shirt on Facebook to promote the Perth-based lobby group's cause............................

New documentary produced and directed by Anna Bragga
Conscience Communications

After a week of surging interest [1] in Toxic Tap Water: Bedford’s Battle’s Against Water Fluoridation…The Trailer [2], today sees the launch of the full movie on social media platforms YouTube and Vimeo [3] amid calls for a UK alliance of groups against water fluoridation.

Co-ordinator and spokesperson for Fluoride Free Bedford [4], Cynthia Bagchi, announced the idea of an alliance on Thursday night’s Richie Allen Show [5], when listeners bombarded the host with concerns about the chemical that dentists claim protects against tooth decay. Cynthia Bagchi said:

“It’s particularly important now, because the government intends to fluoridate the whole country – and they may well do it by very subtle means. Together we can accomplish so much more than in isolated groups.

“An alliance will encourage every citizen to take responsibility to ensure that our water is free from industrial contaminants and the adulterations of hazardous by-products [6] never been approved for human consumption."

Photo: Cynthia Bagchi (left) with members of Fluoride Free Bedford

More than 6 million people in England are subjected to water fluoridation every day, over 10% of the population. Areas with fluoridation schemes include: Cumbria, Cheshire, Tyneside, Northumbria, Humberside, Lincolnshire, Durham, Nottinghamshire, the West Midlands and Derbyshire [7].

Co-ordinator for West Midlands Against Fluoridation (WMAF), Joy Warren, says the government isn’t listening to campaign groups and a large single voice is needed. She said:

“It’s about getting a good communications network in place. We need someone who can manage an email system like Tinyletter, then we’re ready to go. We also need to set up a meeting with Duncan Selbie, the Chief Executive of Public Health England. He’s not likely to lose his job in the General Election. But if Labour gets in, Andy Burnham will try and push fluoridation across the country. He’ll influence every local authority that isn’t already fluoridated with a bad dental record to introduce fluoride. It’s started in Hull.”

Health and wellbeing boards were set up in each Council in April 2013, giving councillors responsibility on whether to fluoridate or not, but in Bedford they haven’t debated the issue, says Cynthia Bagchi, and now Fluoride Free Bedford is lining up for the first battle.

Another Community Ends Fluoridation
Councilors in Carl Junction, Missouri voted to end fluoridation this past week after considering a number of concerns they had regarding the effectiveness and safety of the practice.  The community, which is home to approximately 8,000 residents, started fluoridating the water supply in 2005 after voters approved the use of the additive.
Carl Junction isn’t alone in making this decision.  According to a recent article, “over the past five years, [at least] seven cities and towns in the Show-Me-State have removed fluoride from their municipal water systems, and a half-dozen more have put the matter to vote.”

Senior U.S. Senator Comments on Fluoridation
Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski was recently interviewed by a local newspaper, the Turnagain Times, and was asked her thoughts on fluoridation additives imported to the U.S. from China.  Senator Murkowski is a senior U.S. Senator and is also a member of several important committees in regard to fluoridation, including the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (she is the Chairman), the Committee on Appropriations, and the Committee on Health.
When asked about the lack of oversight for fluoride additives, the Senator responded:
“Are you telling me that the EPA and the FDA don’t inspect fluoride from China?   That’s not right. We can’t even bring in prescription drugs from Canada into the United States. Why aren’t we buying fluoride from U.S. companies?  My committee is meeting with the Director of the EPA, and I will be asking why fluoride from China is not being tested by the EPA or the FDA. That’s unacceptable. No chemical should be coming into our country that is going to be put into our water, without some U.S. agency testing it.  I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but it’s a situation that needs to be addressed, and I will make sure my committee gets some answers.” (See full interview)
Senator Murkowski will be hearing from FAN, but she also needs to hear from citizens of Alaska, as well as scientific and medical professionals from around the world.  We need to ask all of our Congressional representatives to demand that the EPA does its job by prioritizing fluoride's neurotoxic impact on infant development and on childrens' IQ, as well as the thyroid as the most sensitive end point--and not dental fluorosis--in their long overdue assessment.
If you’re a constituent or professional, please call and email Senator Murkowski today.  You can also use FAN’s automated system to send a form letter to the Senator.  Feel free to share FAN’s materials, including the link to our page on fluoridation chemicals.  If you’re not a constituent or pro, then please hold off on contacting the Senator for now, we will mount a more inclusive campaign once she has heard from her voters.
April’s Teleconference & Social Media Event
This month’s International Fluoride Free Teleconference featured a discussion on using social media to engage, educate, and organize communities in opposition to fluoridation.  The call also included “the world’s first ever fluoride free social media bomb (#FluorideFree)”.  You can now download the audio and take your online fluoridation activism to the next level:

Not what it seems.

Do you Have fluoride toxicity? And how you can detoxify yourself of it!

by camillaellis
Recently I had discovered that I had fluoride toxicity! Three years ago when I was pregnant with my son I had need of a very small filling, in fact it was so small at the side of my molar that I didn’t even need any local anesthetic. This dentist knew my request for no fluoride in fact I didn’t even know that they put fluoride in the white fillings. After the filling was done he then told me that he had to put a little of the fluoride in to stop the decay. Well I was speechless, here I was 6 months pregnant, I had done everything to not have any toxins in my body, from eating only organic, using only organic body products, not using any plastics for my food, no aluminum, having a plumbed in water filter system that filtered all the water entering into the house, EVRYTHING! I had thought well its done I cant reverse it! What I didn’t know was that this filling slowly leaked fluoride into the body over time; it was another dentist that had informed me of that.

Why was I so devastated that I couldn’t sleep, especially when I was pregnant with our son?
A Harvard University funded by NIH (National Institutes of Health) (1) found that children who live in highly fluoridated areas have ‘significantly lower’ IQ scores than those in lower fluoridated areas.

A report from the US National Research Council (NRC 2006) (2) stated, “Fluoride may cause neurotoxicity in laboratory animals, including effects on learning and memory…” They state though their meta-analysis of 27 studies that high fluoride has an effect on children’s intelligence, that fluoride may be a developmental neurotoxicant and effects brain development.

Dentists and medical people still refuse to believe that there is a link between the 2 when cognitive decline in adults is on the increase and behavioural issues in children are too (ADD, ADHD, depression and learning disabilities) (3), when there are 23 human studies and 100 animal studies linking fluoride to brain damage, such as:...................

China rejects tea from Kenya over high fluoride levels

The Chinese government has rejected most of Kenya’s tea leaves over high fluoride content, erecting yet another road block on Kenya’s bid to grow its earnings from tea exports.
Officials at Kenya’s tea directorate say the rigorous checks introduced by Chinese regulators seeking to curb entry of high fluoride content tea into their market has significantly cut exports to the Asian nation.
“We have not yet understood why China has introduced this standard, which has never been a quality requirement in all other tea markets including our traditional ones,” said Ms Elizabeth Kimenyi, interim head at the Directorate. Most Kenyan tea is grown in Rift Valley, a region where soils tend to have high fluoride content.
“We are pursuing the matter with the relevant authorities so that we can sort out the issue soon since China provides a huge market for our tea,” Ms Kimenyi told the Senate committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries that visited the Mombasa tea auction on Tuesday...............

Australia - Pressure on Cairns council after national health backs fluoride in water

A NATIONAL oral health plan supporting fluoridation in water could put pressure on Cairns Regional Council to reintroduce fluoride to the city’s water supply.
Council made the decision to remove the chemical – which dentists say protects teeth from decay – in 2012.
Australia’s National Oral Health Plan for 2015-2024 reports its top strategy is to ensure there is access to fluoridated water in towns with more than 1000 people.

Magnesium for men’s health

magnesium tabletsThis is the first in a three-part series of articles on magnesium.
I had some blood work last year that showed I was deficient in magnesium. I had never thought much about this mineral, as I assumed I was getting enough from my diet. My test result prompted me to make sure I was getting enough magnesium going forward and to also share what I’ve found out about this mineral — and why we need it — with other guys

What is magnesium?

The media generally lead us to believe that the main function of magnesium is to support heart health and bone strength. Although these are both important activities, this mineral is involved in much more, especially in relation to men’s health.
Every organ in your body needs magnesium to some degree. Those in most need are your heart, kidneys and muscles. In fact, your heart has the highest amount of magnesium of any organ in the body (bones and teeth are also significant reservoirs for this mineral). Magnesium is also classified as an electrolyte, which means it, along with fellow electrolytes (calcium, potassium, sodium), help keep the body’s fluids in balance and maintain normal functions.
Magnesium is necessary for more than 300 biochemical reactions in your body, so it’s impossible to list them all here.................
...................One more caution concerns fluoride, which is found in fluorinated water and in many medications and supplements. According to Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D., fluoride “interferes with the biological activity of magnesium ion,” and that fluoride reduces absorption of magnesium in the intestines. Overall, “the toxic effect of fluoride ion plays a key role in acute Mg deficiency.” So avoid fluorinated water and other sources of fluoride whenever possible.
